Funding Cliff Warning · Determination Age Lock

Why every month waiting costs money: the OAP age cliffs

Under current OAP guidelines, your core clinical allocation is permanently calculated based on your child's age on January 1 of the year of your Determination of Needs interview. If your child crosses age 10 while on the waitlist, extensive funding drops significantly:

Ages 0–9$65,000
Ages 10–14$41,400
Ages 15–17$31,900

How Stacking Works: The Three Independence Rules

1. No OAP Clawbacks

Accepting ACSD monthly support or Special Services at Home (SSAH) does NOT reduce your OAP core clinical allocation. The Ministry administers these as separate programs.

2. Federal vs Provincial

The Disability Tax Credit (CRA) and Child Disability Benefit (CDB) operate on the federal tax system. They have zero bearing on provincial Ontario benefits.

3. Determination Age Lock

Your OAP band amount is locked based on your child's age when the Determination of Needs interview occurs. Crossing age 10 or age 15 while waiting lowers maximum funding.
